Bellevue bees
They are a small, passionate, local company who make and sell handmade products sourced from their incredible bees. The creator is Rachel, and her love for bees started by accident after offering to help my dad, an experienced beekeeper, with his hives for a summer while he was recovering from surgery. The summer passed, the recovery happened, but by then, I was hooked!
All of their candles are made with Irish wax from hives on the island of Ireland. We use a blend of wax from our own hives and from other beekeepers on the island. It was really important for me that we were using something local – not shipped in from the vast commercial farms in the far East, or bleached to obtain a certain colour.
Just like the variation in natural honey, there is a great variation in wax too – the colour and shade change from hive to hive and season to season. While many beeswax products are bleached with chemicals into bland uniformity, we embrace the variety! While we always try to colour match your order, you will find that the colour of your candles varies between orders – from a rich dark golden to a brighter buttery yellow.
Unlike paraffin candles, beeswax is a natural product, making them healthier to burn, and with a beautiful and distinctive smell. Beeswax burns at a higher temperature than paraffin and because of its density the candles will burn longer and brighter than ‘normal’ candles and drip much less.
Rachel is so passionate about her bees and her candles – we love them, and we hope that you do too
